Storia parrocchiale
La Chiesa cattolica romana di Nostra Signora di Guadalupe è stata fondata nel 1906 nella zona di Bensonhurst a Brooklyn.
Una semplice struttura a telaio con campanile è stata eretta sulla 15th Avenue di fronte alla 73rd Street. Nel 1908 fu costruita una chiesa più grande sullo stesso sito e conteneva un imponente altare, statue e ornate Via Crucis.
In pochi anni il complesso della chiesa crebbe fino a comprendere una canonica, un convento e due edifici scolastici. Nel 1933 l'edificio della chiesa fu completamente distrutto da un incendio.
Una nuova chiesa è stata progettata in stile neo-italiano e costruita nello stesso luogo. Nel 1973 un incendio devastò l'interno dell'edificio degli anni '30, distruggendo o danneggiando molti dei suoi arredi e finestre.
La chiesa fu presto ricostruita all'interno delle vecchie mura e includeva nuove vetrate e un nuovo organo a canne.
2015: Pope Francis Celebrates Mass at Madison Square Garden
On September 25, 2015, Pope Francis celebrated Mass at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York. Our statue of Our lady of Guadalupe, as shown in the pictures, was used to adorn the altar during the beautiful celebration of the Eucharist. Pope Francis's visit to New York City touched many people's hearts and gave hope to many. As a gift from Pope Francis, we were graced with another statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe, located on the left side of the church next to the Carlos Acutis statue and baptismal font. We are honored to have had Our Lady of Guadalupe be a part of this beautiful celebration. Today, you can find the statue on the left side of the altar.
