Baptism
"Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission..." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1213)

Infant Baptism
Baptism is the first Sacrament of Christian Initiation.
Baptisms for infants below the age of 5 years are normally celebrated:
at 1:15 pm, the second Sunday of each month in English
at 1:00 pm, the third Sunday of each month in Spanish
For a child to be baptized at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, the parents must come in person to fill out the intake form. Parents are asked to choose someone to serve as a godparent or sponsor for their child. Since the sponsor’s role is to assist parents in passing on the faith in which the child is being baptized, parents should choose someone who will take the role seriously and will be a good role model for the child. Church law sets minimum requirements: at least 16 years old, already confirmed, and a practicing Catholic.
Parents and godparents are also expected to participate in a Baptismal Preparation Class prior to the baptism date.

Children/Teens Baptism
Children (6 years and older) and teens will need to participate in the Religious Education Program to receive their sacrament. Through age-appropriate lessons, prayer, and participation in parish life, children and teens deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ. Families are encouraged to be active partners in this journey of faith.

Adult Baptism (OCIA)
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."
--Matthew 28:19-20
OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a journey of faith for adults who are interested in learning more about the Catholic Church, becoming Catholic, or completing their Sacraments. Through prayer, study, and fellowship, participants grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and prepare to receive their Sacraments.
